British Karate Federation

In July and September 2010 the British Karate Federation hosted the British and International Open Karate Championships at the Kelvin Hall Arena, Glasgow. Competitors came from near and far including Scotland, Egypt, France, Belgium, Australia and the Republic of Yemen.  HART Services provided medical cover and first aid treatment.

HART Services were supporting Dave Inman, the BKF Sports Injury Specialist, and Alex Earle, both of whom are qualified Osteopaths. On Saturday, during the adult bouts, injuries included a broken nose, black eyes, and pulled muscles, and a host of other minor injuries. All the competitors seemed to enjoy themselves and most continued their bouts after treatment.  The English team triumphed in most categories and impressed our non-Karate knowledgeable staff.

On Sunday, the children competed and showed that they were as disciplined and competitive as their adult counterparts. During the children’s competition, injuries were less but included grazes, cuts and bruises. The first aiders and paramedics duties on Sunday included drying eyes and wiping noses. The joint medical team supplied a high level of professional cover applicable to the type and severity of injuries encountered.

HART Services have been recommended by Dave Inman to be placed on the British Karate Federation approved contractors list and look forward to working with them again in the near future.
