So what is a Risk Assessment?
A Risk Assessment is an assessment of all risks in and around your place of work. This is any thing that my harm, yourself your employees and members of the public and the likelihood of risk or them occurring. You then need to decide what precautions you must take to prevent this to reduce the risks to an acceptable level, As Low As Reasonably Practable ALARP
Hazard & Risk:
Which is which? - And yes they are often confused.
Is something with the potential to cause harm (This cannot be controlled). A Tiger, Asbestos, Radiation, Adverse weather, Legionella bacteria, Chemicals, Dropped objects, Slips & Trips, Falls from Height, failure of an item of equipment..
This is the likelihood of the potential being realised, combined with the severity of the consequences. (This can be controlled) Is the chance, high, medium, or low that - someone will be harmed by the hazard? Risks include injury, disease, death, damage, breakages.
Hazard + Risk = Severity
